he way an elegant Uma Thurman fits into her ``Prime'' role as a sophisticated Manhattan fashion celebrity, it's as if she slipped out of one of her many Vuitton ads and onto the screen.
In ``Prime,'' which opens Friday, Thurman's glamorous Rafi is 37 and suddenly out of a long-term relationship. Against the ticking of her biological clock and her own skepticism, Rafi embarks on an affair with a 14-years-younger aspiring artist (Bryan Greenberg). As she tells all - the highs, the lows, the sex details - to her psychiatrist (Meryl Streep), the shrink is horrified to discover the lover is her son.
Mostly a comedy, ``Prime'' only seems custom-fitted for Thurman, 35. Until 13 days before location filming was to begin, the star was Sandra Bullock, who for reasons of her own (which might include marrying a younger man this year) bowed out.
``They scurried around trying to fix it, and I got the call,'' Thurman recalled. Skeptical (``Sandy is a smart girl; I wondered what was wrong''), she sat down and read the script. By midnight she'd said yes.
