LAUREL: To Liviu Librescu, the Virginia Tech professor who put his life on the line, blocking the door to a classroom and shielding his students as the deranged gunman approached. Librescu was killed in the carnage.

DART: To the Penn-Delco School District, which continues to anger residents with its decisions, and the lack of information and answers to legitimate questions. It appears ready to cut its ties to the Quick Start preschool program, despite parents’ pleas that it be kept on.

LAUREL: To the Chester Upland School District, both the residents and the new Empowerment Board, which is fully airing the idea of placing caps on charter school enrollment before taking a vote.

LAUREL: To U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak, D-7 of Edgmont, who continues to be just about everywhere as he wraps up his first 100 days in office. Last weekend he visited Iraq, where he now believes the threat of an American withdrawal, something he has called for, is getting results in the troubled nation.

DART: To anyone who failed to register to vote. The deadline was Monday. That means you can’t vote in the primary, and will not be able to have your voice heard on the crucial tax questions tied to Act 1.

LAUREL: To Kaitlyn Willard, the wheelchair athlete from Upper Darby, whose noble pursuit of changing PIAA regulations has opened new fields of competition for disabled athletes.

LAUREL: To Todd Fedoruk, the Flyers organization, and all those who rallied to the aid of Stephen Bradley, after money donated to help with the cost of the heart transplant he needs was stolen.

DART: To Joseph Rodak. Being charged with robbery is never a good thing, but being charged with stealing the money for a kid’s operation -- not once but twice -- is a new low.

DART: To longtime NBA ref Joey Crawford, a Havertown native, who decided to pick a fight with NBA star Tim Duncan, and was suspended for the rest of the season and playoffs for his efforts.

LAUREL: To Sahar Dinar, the 13-year-old who brought the horror of her homeland of Darfur to a group in Media last week. Her elegant, moving words show she is wise beyond her age.

DART: To those quick to throw mud on America in the wake of still another gun rampage. It was one sick individual, not the fault of our culture.

LAUREL: To the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, which this year celebrates 200 years of ministering to the spiritual life of the region. It shows the priest sex-abuse scandal is only one part of the story.

DART: To Thomas Smith, the latest ex-priest to be defrocked. It is believed he molested young boys over a long period of time. It is the latest stain, along with the way the archdiocese has handled reports of abuse, that continues to blemish a good institution.

LAUREL: To the Zappone brothers of Interboro, Dom and Tony. First they both starred on the athletic fields. Now both are Marines, soon to be in service to their nation in Iraq. We salute them.

LAUREL: To Ephren Taylor, a young entrepreneur who is donating $350,000 to Cheyney University to establish an academy for entrepreneurial high school and college students on the Delco campus.
