That's certainly been the case ever since Nettle, senior pastor at RiverTree Christian Church at 7373 Portage Ave. NW, garnered national attention for erecting 10 billboards advertising a four-part sermon series about sex.

"Our attendance jumped more than 1,000 people," he said. "The house was packed all weekend. That was what we were hoping, to get the chance to tell the biblical message about sexuality."

Nettle said he's preaching the series because the culture is inundated with sexual imagery, and that too many people don't know what the Bible says about sexual behavior.

"Not only did people want to hear the message, they wanted others to hear it," he said, adding that the sex-series link on the church's Web site has received 20,000 hits.

"The fun thing is, when this went national, literally from all over America, we received more than 200 e-mails," he said. "It was really cool to see the outpouring of support. For every one negative e-mail I'm getting, I'm getting 10 positive ones."
